10 Things that lead to Irresponsibility
fellowship of the Lord’s people
There are few matters which go to the heart of the Lord's testimony more than the matter of fellowship between the Lord's people, and especially where there is particular responsibility for His testimony. The drive of the enemy... as well as his pressure and his misrepresentations, will be directed toward destroying that relationship of fellowship... http://www.austin-sparks.net/english/003689.html
fear
You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do." (Eleanor Roosevelt)

I just finished watching the documentary DIVIDED
what is it about?
There is a crisis. Christian youth are rapidly leaving evangelical churches for the world. This well-recognized disaster has been the topic of significant discussion in recent years for both church leaders and modern new media. DIVIDED follows young Christian filmmaker Philip Leclerc on a revealing journey as he seeks answers to what has led his generation away from the church. Traveling across the country conducting research and interviewing church kids, youth ministry experts, evangelists, statisticians, social commentators, and pastors, Philip discovers the shockingly sinister roots of modern, age-segregated church programs, and the equally shocking evidence that the pattern in the Bible for training future generations is at odds with modern church practices. He also discovers a growing number of churches that are abandoning age-segregated Sunday school and youth ministry to embrace the discipleship model that God prescribes in His Word.
“It’s time to get past the denial phase.” — kevin swanson
“The church has set aside the sufficiency of Scripture for the discipleship of the next generation.” — scott brown

The Old Schoolhouse is a glossy, full-color magazine packed with information and articles that homeschoolers enjoy reading.
Homeschooling High School: To Teach or To Learn – What is Your Goal?
As homeschool parents, our goal is NOT to teach something. Our goal is for the kids to LEARN. I could have taught my kids “at grade level” and they would have not learned a thing. Instead, I gave them curriculum at their ability level, and then they had to learn something that they didn’t already know.
I believe that older teens MUST learn how to teach themselves. If they go to college, they will be expected to learn all the textbook material on their own. College lectures are most often supplemental to the textbook – not the same. If they don’t go to college, they will still have to teach themselves some computer skills, or online banking, or how to buy a car – whatever.

Canadian Version
My friend Grace had this to say about “lazy summer day quiz” and made a suggestion…
This was a neat quiz - it would be fun to do at the supper table with thefamily. But I noticed that it was American written and that US points of interest were included, to the exclusive of anything in Canada. So then I thought it would make a fun project to list 8 - 10 of the key sights to see in Canada. So my question: what 10 MUST SEE Canadian sights would you
include?I'll start.
Must see Canadian sights:
1. Visited, camped or hiked in Banff Jasper National Park or Spent a
night at Banff Springs Hotel.
2. Visited Niagara Falls
3. Swam in Lake of the Woods
4. Visit the home of Anne of Green Gables
5. Toured our national capital - Ottawa
6. Whale watched in the St. Lawrence Seaway
7. Have been to the Artic Circle
8. Visited the oldest settled in North America: L Anse aux Meadows, in
Newfoundland.
9. Had a cuppa tea in Victoria
10. ?
So what would you include?
change your batteries
The Gas Department would like to remind you to change your CO and Smoke Detector batteries. Properly maintained detectors can help save lives.

~An old Cherokee told his grandson…
~An old Cherokee told his grandson, "My son, there's a battle between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies & ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, empathy & truth." The boy thought about it & asked his grandfather, "Which wolf wins?" The old Cherokee quietly replied, "The one you feed".
Love…
snagged from Susan (http://aplacetowrite-susan.blogspot.com/):
To Remember...
Though I teach my children how to multiply, divide, and diagram a sentence, but fail to show them LOVE, I have taught them nothing!
And though I take them on numerous field trips, to swim practice and flute lessons; and though I involve them in every church activity, but fail to give them LOVE, I profit nothing!
And though I scrub my house relentlessly, run countless errands, and serve three nutritious meals every day but fail to be an example of LOVE, I have done nothing!
LOVE is patient with misspelled words and is kind to young interrupters.
LOVE does not envy the high SAT scores of other Homeschool families. LOVE does not claim to have better teaching methods than anyone else, is not rude to the fourth telephone caller during a science lesson, does not seek perfectly behaved geniuses, does not turn into a drill sergeant, thinks no evil about friends’ educational choices!
LOVE bears all my children’s challenges, believes all my children are God’s precious gifts, hopes all my children establish permanent relationships with Christ, and endures all things to demonstrate God’s love!
LOVE never fails!
Where there are college degrees, they will fail;
where there is knowledge, it will vanish away.
For we know in part and we teach in part. But when the trials of life come to our children, the history, math, and science will be done away and faith, hope, and love will remain;
BUT THE GREATEST OF THESE IS LOVE!

Daybook…
(This post inspired from - http://aplacetowrite-susan.blogspot.com/2011/07/daybook-feeling-unsettled.html)
Outside my window...... it is getting darker because of the clouds and the rain that is on its way. It is nice to have the temperatures cooling off for the day.
I am thinking...... about parenting teens, home schooling teens, etc. This is not an easy task. How do I prepare them for their life?
From the Learning Room...... no scheduled academics happening here but lots of life learning. Deanna is caring for 2 orphaned kittens. Jordan is working on the ranch, it is harvesting season.
I am thankful for...... the stability of my life, my community of friends and family, and for grace.
From the kitchen...... I am bored where cooking is concerned. Maybe it is time to watch some cooking shows again for inspiration.
I am reading....... a book Jordan wanted me to read called “The Ishbane Conspiracy” By Randy Alcorn. It is making me ponder about spiritual warfare and the battle that goes on unseen in the spiritual realm. (Ephesians 6:12 - For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. )
I am hoping....... that the new kittens start eating food soon and drinking from a bowl. At what age do kittens usually start doing this?
I am creating...... nothing right now. I am not sure if I ever create anything?
I am listening to............ a documentary about dragons that the kids are watching in the living room.
Around the house........ it is messy and cluttered, but that is normal for my house.
One of my favorite things...... looking at pictures and taking a walk down memory lane. Maybe I will make a cup of tea and take a walk down memory lane tonight. :)
A few plans for the rest of the week................. Jordan turns 16 at the end of the week. I should make some kind of plan for that milestone birthday. Other then that, I don’t have plans.

Teaching kids about responsibilities
“Responsibilities
As we look at our life we see four areas of Responsibilities: Time, Money, Possessions and Work. It is these areas that demand skills often labelled
Life Skills. Once again, the family offers a great training ground for learning these skills and in doing so fulfil our homeschool goals to prepare our children for their lives ahead.”

So I Decide to Sit and Do Nothing
Interesting exercise to try…
“So I’ve decided, in response, to embark on L.L. Barkat’s 12-week God in the Yard study. If you aren’t familiar with L.L.’s book, she wrote it as a reflection of the time she spent outdoors and a guide for us to do the same. Every day for one hour for an entire year she sat outdoors in the same spot. Occasionally she read the Psalms or journaled a bit, but for the most part she simply sat and observed what happened around her.”

I love the movie “Meet the Robinsons”
WHY don’t I own it? (shakes head in disgust)
We watched this movie last night (sent to us via zip.ca) and here are some of my favorite quotes:
1. Franny: [to Wilbur] Mister, you're grounded... 'til you die.
2. Franny: [just before Lewis is about to leave to go back to the past] Wait Lewis, one more thing.
[Franny approaches Lewis]
Lewis: Yeah?
Franny: Just a little tip for the future, I am always right. Even when I'm wrong, I'm right.
[taps Lewis's nose]
Franny: [Lewis gives confused look then looks at Cornelius]
Cornelius: She's right. I would just go with it if I were you...
[chuckles]
Cornelius: and I am.
Lewis: Then you're absolutely right.
3. Wilbur: Keep moving forward!
4. Title Card: Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious... and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths. - Walt Disney
Love that movie. I need to buy it.
:o) We were born to be wild!
a quote from “Modern Christianity strays from 'The Way'
“
Jesus, it appears to me, wants us to have this kind of freedom, for he did not come to start a religion. He came to start a spiritual revolution. Jesus did not come to show us how to build cathedrals or ecclesiastical refuges. He came to show us how to live. Jesus did not come to fence us in but to set us wildly and wonderfully free. We were never born for captivity. We were born to be wild.

Well after learning about severe weather this afternoon…
Well after learning about severe weather this afternoon, we got to see it all in action this evening. We did not see a tornado but we did have one touch down on our community - http://www.globaltvcalgary.com/story.html?id=5067939
I think we should learn about winning the lottery tomorrow.
severe weather learning
Deanna is very scared of storms (ever since two years ago when we had a storm break some windows in our home). So this afternoon during the thunderstorm here, we took some time to research about the ingredients of storms in hopes of relieving some of her fear. So we have learned about thunder, lightning, tornadoes, cloud types, hail, and more. I even learned a few new things too. :)

good morning
Take a moment to sip your coffee, look out at what the sun is shining on, breathe in and breathe out, be still...and be grateful.
No matter the pace of your morning you can always take just a moment to be still and know - and that moment will change the course of your entire day :)
Good Morning!

"After climbing a great hill, one finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can only rest for a moment, for with freedom comes responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk has not yet ended." ~ Nelson Mandela

pictures…
These are baby bunnies. Deanna and her friend Nicole decided to let their rabbits mate and on June 29, 8 cute little bunnies were born. We stopped in at their house the other day to see them and these are the two pictures I took.
This is a Tiger lily from my mom’s flower bed. Tiger lilies are her favorite flower. :)
Rock art… made while waiting for Jordan while he was kayaking on the river. :)
My sweetie Teneal… there is just something about a black and white photo.
A poem that reminded us of Camp Stumpy. Helen Steiner Rice is the poet, but in her version the place was called Sleepy Hollow I think. We changed the name for our beloved Camp Stumpy.
Some of our lilacs from this year.

What is life like in Holland?
I enjoy reading about other cultures, how people live their every day lives. This blogger is showcasing life in Holland. I found the Dutch’s focus on family/community similar to what I have and desire for my own life.

STEPPING OUTSIDE THE GRADE LEVEL BOX
http://simplehomeschool.net/stepping-outside-the-grade-level-box/
A friend recently shared this story which relates to the article: “We were partaking in a hay ride for Canada Day when a woman asked my son if he was in kindergarten. Without batting an eye his response was "no I am home schooled and we do not need the distinction of grades". After I picked up my jaw it was very hard to contain my pride. ”
excellent article I read this morning
LIVING IN THE WILDERNESS
quote
A good relationship has a pattern like a dance and is built on some of the same rules. The partners do not need to hold on tightly, because they move confidently in the same pattern, intricate but gay and swift and free, like a country dance of Mozart's. -Gift from the Sea, Anne Morrow Lindbergh

learning to live out of our hearts and not our intellect -- podcast to listen to
Living Out of Our Hearts
Religious people who are trying to make sense of their pain end up in some pretty scary places. That launches Brad and Wayne into a conversation about learning to live out of our hearts and not our intellect, which tries to understand what God is doing without a real engagement with him. They discuss the lessons of Job and its unique place in the Old Testament, as well as how in a growing relationship with God, making requests of him to fit what we want makes far less sense than learning to commune with him so we can be part of his unfolding purpose in our lives and in the world around us.

cat allergy
Man oh man… my cat allergy is getting worse. I picked up the kittens to bring them in to feed them some soft food and now my throat is reacting (itchy, feels like it is closing, sore). Thank goodness I have allergy pills on hand.
They are so cute… why do I have to be allergic? Grrrrr!
expectations = unhappiness
I learned this lesson a few years ago… expectations kill relationships. This article addresses the husband/wife relationship but the lesson translates to all our relationships.
http://www.simplemarriage.net/expectations-equal-unhappiness.html
After I learned to let go of my expectations in one particular relationship in my life, I found any interactions with this person a gift and I appreciated them instead of being irritated with them for not meeting my expectations. I can now enjoy the freedom of just being in relationship… no strings attached. :)
